Google FundsTechnology to Fund Education for Women in Africa
In "Google Grant to Fund Groundbreaking Use of Technology to Keep Girls in School" we find that Google is showing a commitment to young women and their future.
The grant provides funding to cover all necessities for one year of high school in Tanzania from clothing to school supplies. It also is funding the use of mobile technology, to capture data such as attendance. The data will feed directly into a Camfed database so that follow-ups can occur quickly and pre-empt a drop out or help solve other situations that interfere with educational pursuits.
Camfed fights poverty and AIDS in Africa through educating girls and empowering young women as leaders of change. Since 1993, 1,451,600 children in some of the poorest rural districts of Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia have benefited from Camfed's programs.
The commitment to use technology to pre-empt social and medical issues in order to improve the health and education of women is something we hear at Seed 2020 respects and applauds. Google has stepped up in a big way to support an organisation that is committed and focused and the impact will be noticeable.
