Sample Chapter from Google Beyond Text

Stephen E Arnold's fourth Google study is Google Beyond Text. Like his earlier monographs, he uses Google's patent documents and technical papers as a basis for his analyses. Unlike Google's public statements, these technical and legal documents provide a factual description of the systems and methods that Google's engineers have developed and, in some cases, deployed.

Google Beyond Text: The Rich Media System examines these topics and discusses their possible business implications.
  • Google as a rich media company
  • What's available now
  • Rich media: a market ripe for reinvention
  • Video search
  • Google's rich media hardware
  • Gooble's you network
  • Monetizing rich media
  • Google's content delivery network
  • Google's rich media gap (the sample chapter)
  • Google and video games
  • What's next beyond text?

The monograph is about 150 pages in length and contains numerous diagrams, figures, and tables. Patent documents are listed in tables to facilitate reference to these source materials. The monograph will be available in PDF format only in May 2010.

Mr. Arnold's previous studies of Google have had a significant impact on how some financial analysts interpret Google's strengths and weaknesses. These studies are available from Infonortics Ltd. at www.infonortics.com. In addition, a "Google trilogy" collection is available directly from Infonortics that contains the full text and illustrations for:

  • The Google Legacy, 2005. The first in-depth look at Google's engineering innovations
  • Google Version 2.0: The Calculating Predator, 2007. The first analysis of Google's engineering for efficient processing of information for consumer and enterprise applications
  • Google: The Digital Gutenberg, 2009. The analysis of Google's platform as an end-to-end publishing and information generation utility.

Mr. Arnold and co-author Martin White wrote Successful Enterprise Search Management in 2009, published by Galatea Press in the UK. This monograph is available from www.galatea.com.
